Had lunch today at The Golden Star while watching NASCAR. It was actually excellent. Might even be my favorite meal so far. I had the Garlic Seafood Pineapple. It was a half pineapple filled with octopus, shrimp, conch and scallops in a white wine/pineapple sauce topped with cheese. The sauce was absolutely amazing! As was the octopus and the conch.
I didn’t realize I loved conch so much but it is delicious. The scallops were small and the shrimp were mushy but the other seafood was amazing and there was lots of it. Of course, I could only finish less than half the dish. It was served with rice, salad and a bun for 165 pesos (and a free margarita!) Although I’ve been known to rave about the rice in Mexico this wasn’t my favorite but a great lunch overall. They have some interesting items on their menu that I will try on future visits. And their Margaritas are great!
I have to say to Jacques and anyone else who plan to try grilled octopus – it is amazing and may even be my new favorite. I’m going to seek out a few other places that serve it and see if I like it as much as I think I do!
